GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The city of Grand Forks collected its highest level of sales tax revenue ever recorded for the month of October.

The city received nearly $1.8 million, the fourth largest total since the start of the sales tax in 1985.

Finance Director Saroj Jerath says this is the third month in 2011 that has made the top ten sales tax list.

"Our year-to-date amount received is up nearly 5% from the same 10 month period last year," Jerath said. "We have definitely been trending upward in sales tax collections since the stock market crash in 2008."

The October sales tax revenue represents the sales tax collected for the month of August 2011.

The total tax collected for 2011 is more than $14.3 million, up more than $681,000 from 2010.
