GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A national study suggests that adults in North Dakota are among the least suicidal people in the country.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the study Friday.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that though Midwesterners generally have higher attempted-suicide rates than the national average, North Dakotans buck that trend. Nationally, 3.7 percent of adults have seriously considered suicide, and 0.5 percent have attempted it.

For Midwesterners, the rates climb to 4.3 percent and 0.5 percent. But in North Dakota, the rate is 2.7 percent and 0.3 percent.

The study finds that Georgians are the least suicidal, at 2.1 percent and 0.1 percent. The most suicidal were Rhode Island residents.

The study doesn't include those who succeeded in killing themselves.
