EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Locked out workers at the American Crystal Plant in East Grand Forks have to make some changes to their picket site outside the plant.
The city of East Grand Forks presented a letter to the locked out workers on Tuesday.
East Grand Forks city attorney Ron Galstad stated multiple city ordinances that are being violated.
The group needs to take down their blue tarp tent, move their wood-burning stove farther away from the road and keep their unused wood in an enclosed container.
They can keep one chair per person on the roadside, but everything else needs to be moved back.
"The wood it's nice to have, you know. There's been many nights where it's gotten below freezing and it's windy, windy nights. It helps take the bite out of the air. I know the tent may have not looked like the Hilton but it kept the wind off our backs and what not," locked out union member Ken Lamberson said.
The locked out workers need to comply with the ordinances by Wednesday morning or the city could issue fines.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the tent was taken down and the workers were building a container for the wood. Locked out workers say they plan on moving the stove back as well.
