Hunter Near Mentor, MN Rescued From Sinkhole

A man duck hunting with two friends was rescued from a sinkhole in the wetlands near Mentor, Minn. Saturday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office was called shortly before 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. When responders arrived, 37 year-old Peter Fehlen of Burnsville, Minn. was chest deep in mud. He couldn't move and was still sinking.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office used a boat and personal floating device until more help arrived.

Mentor Fire Rescue used a tracked vehicle and an inflatable raft to pull Fehlen from the sinkhole.

The hunters were in section 29 of Tilden Township, several hundred yards south of Polk County Road 45.

Fertile EMS and the Minnesota DNR also responded. Fehlen was treated and released.
