GREELEY, Colo. (AP) — Zeb Miller kicked a career best 54-yard field goal with 1:52 left, lifting North Dakota to a 27-25 victory over struggling Northern Colorado on Saturday.
Brent Goska completed 18 of 30 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown and ran for a second for North Dakota (5-3).
Ross Brenneman recovered two fumbles for the Fighting Sioux, who evened the all-time series at 12-12.
Patrick Walker caught 10 passes, two for touchdowns, and a school and Big Sky record 315 yards for the Bears (0-9).
Northern Colorado appeared set to win its first game of the season. Seth Lobato, who completed 23 of 36 for four touchdowns, connected with Walker on an 88-yard touchdown pass with 3:45 left.
But Dominic Hawkins returned the ensuing kickoff to the Northern Colorado 39. An incomplete pass and two short runs got the Fighting Sioux as close as the 36 from where Miller sent a low line drive kick through the uprights.
The Bears were stopped on downs after taking over at their own 27.
The Sioux broke a 7-7 tie with two touchdowns in the final 1:52 of the second quarter to take a 21-13 lead into halftime.
Goska capped a 75-yard drive, diving over the pile from the 1 with 1:52 left.
After Northern Colorado picked up a first down on its next possession, Lobato fumbled when sacked and Brenneman recovered on the UNC 37.
Two plays later, Goska found Blair Townsend alone in the end zone on a 16-yard pass.
The Bears got the game back to 21-13 on a 48-yard scoring strike to an unguarded Dominic Gunn with 2.5 seconds left.
Jake Miller had a 3-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Chris Morris caught a 15-yard pass deflected by North Dakota defensive back Baylee Carr into the end zone with 6:08 left in the second quarter.
The Bears drew to within 21-19 when Lobato hit Walker in stride on an 80-yard TD pass early in the third quarter. But Lobato failed to connect on the two-point conversion.
Zeb Miller extended North Dakota's lead to 24-19 with a 41-yard field goal with 1:21 left in the third quarter.
Northern Colorado reached the North Dakota 21 after Walker caught 68-yard pass. But Lobato fumbled when hit and Ben Henson recovered at the Sioux 35 with 11:14 left in the fourth quarter.
North Dakota marched right down the field to the UNC 10. Chuks Nweke blocked Zeb Miller's field goal attempt from 27 yards out ahead of Walker's go-ahead touchdown.
