GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Police are warning local pharmacies to take extra precautions after a rash of burglaries or attempted burglaries.

Grand Forks police say six pharmacies have been targeted in the last few days and they could be related.

Lieutenant Rod Hajicek of the East Grand Forks Police Department says one of those burglaries is at the Pamida pharmacy in East Grand Forks.

There was another burglary attempt early Tuesday morning at the UND Family Practice pharmacy near the Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Hajicek says the burglaries and attempts also extend to Pembina and Kittson Counties.

He says they do have suspects in these crimes.

"It's certainly been a trend in the last few years of abuse of these types of prescriptions and maybe an addiction we haven't dealt with to these pills," Hajicek said.

There was $1,300 of narcotic pills taken from the Pamida Pharmacy on Monday, which was the most recent burglary.

The most Hajicek would say is that they have suspects and they're investigating along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
