BEMIDJI, Minn. (AP) — Authorities now say the death of a hunter in Beltrami County in northwestern Minnesota resulted from natural causes, not a fall.

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said Monday that a coroner determined that 72-year-old Gene A. Berthiaume, of St. Paul, died from natural causes, not injuries caused by a fall from his deer stand.

Hunters in his party found him under his deer stand sear Saum around 11 a.m. Saturday on the opening day of Minnesota's firearms deer season. Emergency medical personnel from Blackduck administered first aid, but Berthiaume died at the scene.
