Voters Decide on Numerous Referendums in Northwest MN

(WDAZ-TV) - A number of school districts around Minnesota held votes Tuesday on new, or existing local levies to support education. Polls closed at 8 p.m.

- Climax-Shelly voters voted, almost unanimously, to renew an existing levy that provides the district with $1,931 per student. The vote was 115 in favor and four against.

- East Grand Forks had a close vote to renew two existing levies that would not raise taxes. The vote was 559 in favor, 423 against.

- Voters in Clearbrook and Gonvick, MN, voted down an operating levy referendum Tuesday night. The levy would've extended the existing levy and add an increase of $600 a student for a total of $1,200 a student for a ten year period. Of 675 votes cast, 213 were "yes" votes and 462 were "no."

- Voters in Thief River Falls voted yes on an extension of the current operating levy. 1698 people voted yes and 887 voted no.

Also voted in favor was a $54 million bond referendum, which applies across the board to taxes paid on all property in the school district. 1339 people voted yes and 1246 people voted no.

- In Badger, voters approved a $1,500 levy 240 to 65.

- In Warroad, voters approved a $126.75 per student levy extension.

- In Greenbush and Middle River, voters decided to replace the existing levy with a $1,135 one with 500 yes votes and 299 no votes.

- In Stephen and Argyle, voters denied a $2,000 per student referendum with 322 no votes and 256 yes votes.

- Voters in Crookston, voted for two of the referendum items, both a $100 and $1000 per student cost. On the $1000 item, 1378 voted for, and 885 against. On the second item, 1741 were for, 794 against.
