JAMESTOWN, ND - A standoff involving an unknown male with a handgun in downtown Jamestown is over, according to Jamestown police.

The Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol were involved in a standoff with an unknown male in downtown Jamestown Wednesday afternoon.

The officers pursued the individual from the area at the top of Mill Hill, according to initial reports on a police band scanner. The man fled on foot into an alley in downtown Jamestown between First and Second streets and First and Second avenues in southwest Jamestown. At about 2:05 p.m., Sgt. Scanner traffic indicated a negotiator had been called to the scene.

Second Street West in the area of the Jamestown Post Office was blocked off during the incident and has been reopened.
