The City of Devils Lake held Old-Fashioned Christmas celebrations for the past three Saturdays of the month. Organizers say they brought more shoppers to area businesses.

Shoppers took advantage of specials at local stores. They also got to go on sleigh rides, listen to carolers and meet Santa. The idea is to get people to do their holiday shopping in Devils Lake this holiday season. Organizers say although exact numbers aren't in yet, there was a good turn-out.

Suzie Baisch/Devils Lake Tourism Director: "Even driving up Highway 2 all of the big market stores, their parking lots were always full, so it was a really good turnout this year. We're really happy with it."

The city plans to have the celebrations again next year and may continue to add more events to them.
