GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Police have responded to a string of burglaries in the city recently.
A number of homes and businesses have been broken into.
Police say business burglaries seem to be more pre-meditated than residential burglaries.
They say thieves usually know what they want from a business and they know how to break in.
Homes are a more random target.
Thieves generally steal from homes if there is an easy opportunity.
Police say there are many ways you can protect your home from being a target.
"Don't leave your garage door open. It's like an invitation, you know, if they're driving around looking for a target of opportunity so to speak. They'll probably drive around the block and see if anybody is home," Lt. Rahn Farder said.
Police say keep your home well-lit and remember to lock all your doors, including your car doors.
