GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - After 20 years of separation, a Grand Forks woman was reunited with her son at the Fargo Airport.
Lisa Spinks thought her two-year old son Michael would have a better life if she let another family adopt him. On Tuesday, they were finally reunited.
Spinks has waited for 20 years for this day.
While living in Texas when Michael was just two years old, she made the tough decision to give him up for adoption.
"And I finally realized he was going to need more as he got older," Spinks said.
Soon after the adoption, Lisa would move to Wisconsin and lose contact with her son. For the last two decades, old photos were all she knew of Michael.
This year she got up the courage to contact Michael through Facebook, hoping he would understand the decision she made a long time ago.
"So I friend requested him and he accepted within 10 minutes. We have been talking everyday since then," Spinks said.
Soon after that, they decided to meet. Tuesday was that day.
"There is just so many emotions going on right now that I just don't think I could put one word on how I feel," Spinks said.
With another son, Dillon, and her fiance Peter by her side, Lisa waits for this reunion.
"Can you see if the plane is out there," Spinks said. "My dream is finally reality."
And finally after two decades...
"There he is, oh my god, oh my god!" Spinks said.
"I'm back," son Michael said.
After the long hugs and tears, come the family introductions.
"Dillon, this is your brother," Spinks said. "I feel complete now. Part of me that was missing is back. I got my boy."
As for Michael, he decribes his reunion with just a couple words.
"Great. Amazing," Michael said.
Before returning to his home in Texas, Micheal will spend the month of December in Grand Forks catching up with his mother and brothers.
