VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Candidates vying for the Republican endorsement to run for the U.S. House in North Dakota are gathering in Valley City in a few weeks for the first debate of the campaign season.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that the Dec. 14 debate at Valley City State University will feature all four announced Republican candidates — Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer, former Department of Commerce Commissioner Shane Goettle, state Rep. Bette Grande, R-Fargo and Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk — as well as State Rep. Kim Koppelman.

Koppelman, a Republican from West Fargo, has formed an exploratory committee. The candidates are running to replace Republican Rep. Rick Berg, who is running for the U.S. Senate next year. Delegates will vote on their endorsement during the state's convention next spring.
