FARGO (WDAZ-TV) - An Emerado, ND, man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Tuesday on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Clifford Sweeney, 52, uploaded child porn to the adult pornographic website motherless.com on January 11, 2011. The images were reported by the website to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which referred the lead to the North Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
A search warrant was executed at Sweeney's residence where hundreds of images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct were found.
The charge of possession of materials involving sexual exploitation of minors carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. Distribution of those materials carries a maximum penalty of 20 years.
Sweeney will be sentenced in Fargo on February 27.
The case was investigation by Homeland Security Investigations and ND Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The case was brought as a part of Project Safe Childhood, which is a nationwide initiative that was launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Klemetstrud Puhl is prosecuting the case.
