EAST GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - An East Grand Forks couple is celebrating a special milestone. Rudolph and Katherine Walz have been married 75 years.
The two 96-year-olds haven't left one another's side since December 10, 1936. Their memories may not be as sharp as they once were, but they do know one thing.
"I know that we're together a long time and it's good," Katherine said.
The couple has three children and eight grandchildren. Most live in other states, but their daughter Marlys is close by.
"They must have a secret, I don't know. They probably should let me know!" Marlys said.
If there's a secret to a long, happy and healthy marriage, Rudolph and Katherine have discovered that secret over the past 75 years and are still living together at their home.
"I tell him that I love him and he loves me," Katherine said.
"They were, I guess, childhood sweethearts and they're just been happy," Marlys said.
"We grew up together," Rudolph said.
The couple grew up in Pettibone, ND, and stayed to raise family.
"Family has always been very important to them. I think that's probably why they're celebrating their 75th anniversary," Marlys said.
75 years is a big milestone many couples don't see.
"I don't know, I guess I just don't think about it too much," Katherine said.
And maybe that easy-going attitude is the secret to their success.
Marlys and her daughter celebrated with the happy couple at Edgewood Vista.
