GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A Grand Forks man was shot at early Wednesday morning in an apartment on South 17th Street.

GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A Grand Forks man was shot at early Wednesday morning in an apartment on S. 17th St.

Travis Samshal, 26, allegedly shot a deer rifle at his roommate Leonel Franco, 34, at their apartment at 2603 S. 17th St. around 3:20 a.m.

Fortunately the bullet did not hit Franco and passed by him, hitting a closet door and ending up lodged in the electric panel. There were no injuries in the incident.

Samshal was charged with Reckless Endangerment and Discharging a firearm within City Limits.

"Dispatchers asked him to cooperate with police and come out with compliance and to submit to authority and he did so. Mr. Samshal was taken into custody and as a result of that, we went inside and did a cursory search--a protective sweep of the residency to make sure there was nobody injured or any other weapons present," Grand Forks police Lt. Grant Schiller said.

Numerous weapons and ammunition were found at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are possible.
