FARGO – Police are looking for two male suspects who are believed to have shot a man after demanding money Friday night.
A 30-year-old man told police that two black men, one in a black “puffy” jacket and the other wearing a do-rag approached him on the street near 1521 27th Ave. S., said Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel.
Vettel said that the man said the two men demanded money, but the victim was unable to give the two men any money, and a struggle ensued.
“They did grab a hold of him, and in the struggle he was shot in the arm,” Vettel said.
A woman reported to police that she heard gunshots outside her apartment around 7:25 p.m. She looked out to see all three men run away.
Vettel said officers responded immediately but the victim and suspects had left the area.
Dave Johnson, who lives near the area, said he did not hear the gunshots but heard the man’s cries for help. Johnson said he heard the man yell, “Help me, I’ve been shot.”
The suspects were last seen heading in an “easterly direction” on foot, Vettel said.
Essentia Hospital representatives later said that the man had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Officers were able to speak to the man at the hospital.
It was not known yet if the man lives in the area.
“We don’t know what brought him to this location,” Vettel said of the victim.
The gun is believed to be a handgun, but the type was not yet identified. It was unclear how many shots may have been fired, Vettel said late Friday night.
A perimeter closed off the 1500 block of 27th Avenue South late Friday night. Vettel said investigators were canvassing the area and planned to check nearby businesses for any possible surveillance footage.
“We’re canvassing the entire area for witnesses,” Vettel said. “We’re doing all we can to make sure we solve it.”
