GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Northwood woman was ordered to repay almost $33,000 in public assistance to settle a felony theft charge.

Court documents in Grand Forks say Sarah Beth Nordling didn't report her husband's income from workers' compensation when she applied for Medicaid, food stamps and other benefits.

Northeast Central District Judge Karen Braaten sentenced Nordling to a year in jail and suspended the sentence, which means Nordling won't have to spend any time behind bars.

Braaten placed Nordling on probation for 10 years and ordered her to repay $32,601 in restitution. She has to pay the money back at the rate of $50 a month.
