GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Prices that North Dakota farmers received for their crops last month were down from November but remained near historic highs.

The Agriculture Department says farmers in December received an average of $8.15 per bushel for the state's staple crop, spring wheat. The Grand Forks Herald reports that the figure is down 52 cents from November but still a record for December marketings.

The state's farmers typically sell about 10 percent of the spring wheat crop in December. From 2005 to 2010, December prices for spring wheat at North Dakota grain elevators averaged less than $5.50 per bushel.
