UND Women's Hockey Team Debuts New JerseysThe University of North Dakota Women's Hockey Team debuted a new look Wednesday night.
The University of North Dakota Women's Hockey Team debuted a new look Wednesday night.
The women's hockey team has ditched their old white and black jerseys with the Sioux logo displayed on the front.
The interlocking ND logo now appears on the women's white home jerseys.
The women will continue to use their green jerseys at away games. Those simply say "North Dakota" and do not have the Sioux logo on them.
Head Coach Brian Idalski says the new jerseys are part of the NCAA's sanctions on UND to phase out the nickname and logo.
The designer of the new jerseys has roots here in Grand Forks.
"Gemini Athletics designed the jerseys. Their owner is a UND grad, so he takes a lot of pride in coming up with stuff for us and have to give full credit to him. He did a great job with them," Idalski said.
The men's hockey team is the last team wearing uniforms with the Sioux logo. Decisions on a new design will be finalized next month. The team will be wearing new jerseys in time for NCAA tournament games.
