GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks insurance agent who stole thousands of dollars from clients and forged checks in her fiance's name has been ordered to spend eight months in jail and pay back more than $27,000.

Thirty-eight-year-old Lisa Johnston was sentenced Wednesday. The Grand Forks Herald reports that she pleaded guilty late last year to felony forgery and theft of property charges. State Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm also revoked her license.

Johnston was accused of using client money to pay personal bills, in late 2010 and early 2011, and writing the checks on her fiance's account. Some of the checks were written to the insurance agency for which she worked.

Johnston will be on probation for eight years following her jail time.
