Grand Forks Welcomes Doctors Hospital

GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Doctors Hospital is working on some final touches before it opens in Grand Forks. It's on the south end of town right next to the Aurora Medical Center.

GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Doctors Hospital is working on some final touches before it opens in Grand Forks. It's on the south end of town right next to the Aurora Medical Center.

The 65 beds to serve patients are currently stored in the hospital's waiting room until the rooms are ready. But, in a few short weeks it'll be opening its doors for the very first patients.

Despite the number of people Doctors Hospital can serve compared to Altru Hospital with 262 beds, its aim is unique to the community.

"We want to make sure that we're doing the optimal care, ultimate quality we can do," said CEO, Albert Pilkington.

Providing quality to the people of Grand Forks, while making their stay comfortable. Private rooms, 55-inch flat screen TV's, and jacuzzi bath tubs are only part of the Doctors Hospital plan.

"It's exciting for the community to have a new hospital in town I think it gives people and patients a choice," said M.D., Rory Trottier.

"Choice for the health care consumer," said Pilkington.

But, open heart surgery and trauma services aren't on the list as of right now.

"Some services that Altru does - and they do them quite well - like level 1 trauma and there will be quite some time if we ever get into a NICU, that type of thing," said Pilkington.

Although there are certain aspects Doctors Hospital won't offer, it's equipped with all units a typical Hospital offers, and spending more to better serve a patient isn't a problem.

"If they feel like that's what they need to provide the quality then we'll spend the extra money to do that," said Pilkington.

"My main focus as always will be taking good care of patients," said Trottier.

"Generally the people of Grand Forks and surrounding areas will be pleased with what they find," said Pilkington.

The hospital is attached to the Aurora Medical Park but not affiliated with it.
