GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — One of the country's top hockey recruits has changed his mind about playing for the University of North Dakota.

Stefan Matteau is the leading scorer on the U.S. Under-18 Team. He said last October that he had chosen UND over Michigan, Michigan State and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Matteau posted on his Twitter account this week that he has decided to play for a team in the Quebec league. His father is an assistant coach for the team that recently acquired Matteau's rights through a trade.

Matteau's announcement was first reported by the Grand Forks Herald. UND spokesman Jayson Hajdu on Thursday confirmed to The Associated Press that Matteau has notified UND he will not be playing for the school.
