GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Palestinian immigrant from Jordan who opened an auto sales business in Grand Forks has pleaded guilty to making fraudulent auto sales to fellow immigrants, many of whom say they trusted the man because he spoke Arabic.

Forty-five-year-old Muhannad Tahtamouni is to serve about half a year in jail under terms of a plea agreement. The Grand Forks Herald reports that restitution will be determined at sentencing, which is set for March 7.

Authorities say the man known as Moe sold used cars at Moe's Motors without transferring titles to the new owners and also failed to pay taxes and fees on some of the vehicles. The amount of unpaid taxes and fees totaled more than $4,800.
