GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - A fire at the new Red River High School theater in Grand Forks caused the precautionary evacuation of the school Wednesday morning.

A battalion chief said the main school building is not threatened by the blaze at the construction site of the new theater on the southern end of the school.

The fire was reported at about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.

No smoke entered the building and no one was hurt. Grand Forks school superintendent Larry Nybladh says the building was evacuated within 10 minutes.

School at Red River has been canceled for the rest of the day including after-school activities.

Students were dismissed to go home or sent to the evacuation site at Eagles Arena where they can be picked up by parents.

The new theater is about half complete although most of the structure is concrete and steel girders. It sits right next to the high school but is not connected to the building. Construction was going on at the site Wednesday morning including tarring work.

The state fire marshal will be investigating the cause of the fire.
