GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The Grand Forks Fire Department has finished its investigation into the cause of the fire at the new theater under construction just south of Red River High School.

The fire started around 10:25 a.m. Wednesday morning. It triggered the precautionary evacuation of the school. No one was hurt and no smoke entered the school.

Officials say the fire was accidental, with its cause being a hot spot from a propane torch used to melt ice for winter roofing.

The blaze was confined to the roof of the stage shop and the outside east wall of the stage.

Damage amounts to both of the areas affected are still being determined.

The inside of the new theater wasn't affected much, with very little smoke damage.
