DEVILS LAKE, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The North Dakota Tax Commissioner is trying to make it easier to avoid some of the headaches that go along with filing a return.

More than 75 percent of North Dakota tax returns are filed electronically and now the state is offering up some virtual tips to help make taxes even less taxing.

Tax Commissioner Cory Fong is offering up some tax tips through YouTube videos.

"I'm not sure about that. Do people access them? I'm not sure if they know where to look," Karen Lindseth said.

It's a new concept, but it's one people might have to get used to.

"I guess it's just with the times. Everything you can find on YouTube and online. Probably was just bound to happen soon," Amber Hoelt said.

"I think as people get used to doing it, I know all my children do electronic," Lindseth said.

But it's not for everyone. Chad Nahinurk says he would prefer the personal touch.

"If I need help with my taxes, I usually go to H&R Block or I have one of my family members help me do it," Nahinurk said.

But like filing your returns online, going to YouTube for professional advice might become normal for younger generations.

"Younger people that do their taxes themselves are always looking for aides for their taxes. A lot of them will buy a program. If they could look at something on YouTube and see that I think they would use it," Lindseth said.

The North Dakota Tax Department will release videos periodically until April 15 to help people with various tax problems.
