(WDAZ-TV) - Searchers found the body of 53-year-old Michael Hermanson Thursday morning at Lake Coe in Eddy County, about 20 miles east of New Rockford.

Eddy County Sheriff Brandon Maygra says Hermanson was found around 9:20 a.m. Sheriff's deputies and about 20 volunteers searched the lake.

He had been missing since Monday morning when he left to go fishing. Searchers on the ground spotted equipment from Hermanson's truck floating in the water, which led to the discovery of his body.

Maygra says it appears Hermanson drove his vehicle onto the lake, where it fell through near a pressure ridge.

Maygra says Hermanson managed to escape the vehicle and walk about half a mile before collapsing near the shoreline.

Maygra says North Dakota Game and Fish told him ice thickness throughout the lake was anywhere from 15 to 24 inches, except at the pressure ridge. He warns that with the mild winter we've been having, it's more important than ever to make sure to exercise extreme caution on the ice.
