EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - A Grand Forks man was arrested after police found $1,000 worth of hallucinogenic mushrooms on him.
20-year-old Sean Michael Gangelhoff of Grand Forks had 106 grams when he was pulled over by an East Grand Forks police officer just before 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to a criminal complaint, the car Gangelhoff was riding in was pulled over on Highway 2 in East Grand Forks because of multiple cracks in the windshield.
The officer spoke with the driver and noticed Gangelhoff in the back seat with a full baggie in his jacket pocket. The officer asked what was in the bag and Gangelhoff said "nothing." The officer noticed that there were hallucinogenic mushrooms in the bag.
The officer asked Gangelhoff to step out of the vehicle and, according to the complaint, Gangelhoff kissed his girlfriend and said goodbye to her and the driver. He was then arrested after admitting to having a "couple hundred dollars worth" of mushrooms in his pocket.
Gangelhoff was searched and the officer found four baggies of mushrooms, a small amount of suspected marijuana, a glass pipe and a cigarette package containing a Lorcet pill which contained hydrocodone and acetaminophen.
At the East Grand Forks police station, Gangelhoff was interviewed and told police he was delivering the mushrooms to a friend in Grand Forks.
His bond was set at $20,000. He was charged with second degree sale of a controlled substance, which carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison, a $500,000 fine or both. Gangelhoff also faces another five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both for a charge of fifth degree possession of a controlled substance.
