GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — The Animal Humane Society has taken in more than 100 dogs removed from a property near Bemidji.
Authorities contacted Senior Humane Agent Wade Hanson after 107 dogs and two cats were found during a welfare check on two women living in separate mobile homes on the property.
On Wednesday, one of the women surrendered 48 dogs into the care of the Animal Humane Society. On Thursday, Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp served both women with a warrant to investigate the property and remove the remaining 61 animals.
The dogs are mostly small breeds, including pug, Chihuahua, dachshund and spaniel mixes.
The 48 dogs surrendered to the Humane Society will be evaluated for placement. The remaining animals will be held pending developments in the case.
