GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Stephane Pattyn's first goal of the season was the game-winner as North Dakota beat Wisconsin 5-3 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday.

Pattyn goal took a pass from Mario Lamoureux with 1:54 left to play and deflected it into an empty net. Brock Nelson rolled in an empty-net goal with 1 second left.

"It was tough sledding," North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. "The story of our night in the first 40 minutes was build a lead and let them back into it. It was a 20-minute hockey game and we won that game."

North Dakota (14-10-2, 10-9-0) improved to 7-1-1 in its last nine home games against the Badgers (12-11-2, 7-10-2).

Nelson had two goals. Dillon Simpson, who also notched his first goal of the year, added an assist for UND.

Michael Mersch had two goals for the Badgers, who were outshot 25-17. Wisconsin dropped to 1-7-1 on the road.

UND goal Aaron Dell had 14 saves, while Wisconsin's Joel Rumpel had 20.

The teams combined for four goals in the first 13:34 of the game. Michael Parks and Nelson gave North Dakota a 2-0 lead. But Mersch and Keegan Meuer scored for Wisconsin to even things up.

Mersch had another goal waved off after it was ruled he kicked the puck in.
