DEVILS LAKE, ND (WDAZ-TV) - A record number of anglers threw their hats into the ring and their lines into the water at this weekend's fishing tournament.

Devils Lake Fire Chief Jim Moe says 4,321 people tried to hook the big one, or the second biggest one.

The angler with the biggest catch won a $1,000 but second place prize was a truck, so more anglers angled for the silver medal.

Moe says people came from as far away as New York City and El Paso, TX, to fish.

He says everything came together perfectly to make for a record-setting day.

"As we kind of suspected because of the weather conditions, the new location, and everything seemed to work just perfect for us, so we were anticipating a lot more people, and we absolutely got more people," Moe said.

The exact numbers won't come in for another month or so, but Moe says the tournament raised around $100,000 for the Devils Lake Fire Department.
