Beltrami County Commercial Fire Causes $150K in Damage

The Bemidji Fire Department responded to two structure fires within the span of an hour Sunday afternoon, including a commercial fire in Eckles Township that caused about $150,000 worth of damage.

The Bemidji Fire Department responded to two structure fires within the span of an hour Sunday afternoon, including a commercial fire in Eckles Township that caused about $150,000 worth of damage.

According to press releases from the Bemidji Fire Department:

The first fire was reported at 2:46 p.m. by an employee at a commercial structure in Eckles Township. Upon arrive, firefighters found thick black smoke bellowing from the structure. The fire was contained to one of many semi-trucks located inside.

No injuries were reported. Damage from the fire is estimated at $150,000, including the damage to the vehicle, the structure and its contents.

Twenty-two firefighters responded with three fire engines, three tankers and one ladder truck. The department remained on scene about two hours.

The cause of the fire re-mains under investigation, but it appears to be accidental in nature.

Assisting at the scene was the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Bemidji Ambulance Service.

Meanwhile, a residential fire was reported at 3:35 p.m. on the 500 block of Kay Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke from the structure and worked to contain the fire to the kitchen cabinets.

No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $7,000 to the kitchen.

Nineteen firefighters used three fire engines, one tanker and one ladder truck on scene. They remained on scene about 90 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be accidental in nature.

Assisting at the scene was the Bemidji Police Department and Bemidji Ambulance Service.
