GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - The new Doctors Hospital on the south end of Grand Forks is set to open soon, but a little later than expected.
It still has a few tests to pass and some supplies and equipment to set up.
If all goes as planned, the 65 bed facility should open its doors by March 1.
"It's a job of 10,000 little things right now," Doctors Hospital CEO Albert Pilkington said.
The new facility is nearly complete. Doctors Hospital should receive supplies this week. Equipment arrived last week.
"We're finishing up our life safety code survey today and then we're also been in the process of finishing up our policy and procedures," Pilkington said.
The hospital will need to pass two more surveys before it can open. One is an assessment from the state, the other is for accreditation.
"It just depends on whenever they arrive and when we get through the second survey then we can go to the third survey, but both of those are random and unannounced so the wild card is when those surveys come about," Pilkington said.
Wildcard aside, the staff is busy preparing to open the doors to patients.
"I came from a small area and the small hospital I worked in everybody was family, co-workers, the patients, and just being able to treat them like they're family and bringing that culture into a larger facility or a larger community but in a bigger facility is very exciting to me," Director of Medical and Surgical Services Stacie Avdem said.
Doctor's Hospital is the first and only hospital in North Dakota owned by Physicians Hospital System.
Representatives say they want to give the people of Grand Forks and the surrounding area more choice when it comes to health care.
