Devils Lake Guard Named Taco John's Player of the Week

(WDAZ-TV) - Area coaches sent in some terrific nominees this week. Unfortunately, we can pick only one.
This week's winner is a basketball guard from Devils Lake Nathan Mertens. The 6'2" junior had a pair of outstanding games last week.
On Tuesday, he had 24 points, seven assists and three rebounds in a loss to top-rated and unbeaten Red River.
Then on Friday, Mertens scored 34 points, had eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win over Fargo North.
Mertens Averages 22 points a game, which is second in the EDC. He's also among conference leaders in assists and steals.
