People in a small community are pulling together in a big way.

Volunteers from Viking, Minnesota and surrounding areas are joining to fulfill a cancer victim's wish.

In early November, 51-year-old Dwayne Myers was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given just two months to live.

He was deeply upset to leave his wife with his list of unfinished projects. At the top of that list was barn to house their cows.

Doreen, Dwayne's wife, never thought it would get done, but the community was determined to make sure that it did.

Two weeks ago, Dwayne watched through the window as more than 50 friends, family and complete strangers gathered to work on the barn. He died three days later.

Today, volunteers gathered again, to continue working.

A benefit for the family will be held Sunday, February 5, at Viking School from 11-2.

Donations to the family may be sent to the Dwayne Myers Benefit Account at Northern State Bank in Thief River Falls.
