Crookston Man Charged in Father's Stabbing Death

CROOKSTON, MN (WDAZ-TV) A Crookston man is being charged with murder in the first degree and murder in the second degree in the stabbing of his father, Jerome Abel.

CROOKSTON, MN (WDAZ-TV) A Crookston man is being charged with premeditated murder in the first degree and murder in the second degree in the stabbing of his father, Jerome Abel.

Crookston police say they were called to 1500 N. Broadway apartments around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, where they found Jacob Anthony Abel, 27, holding a knife in the hallway and covered in blood.

Officers told Abel to drop the knife, which he did, and they took him into custody without further incident.

Inside an apartment, officers found Abel's father, Jerome Anthony Abel, 58, dead with multiple stab wounds.

According to a criminal complaint, 27-year-old Jacob Abel admitted to authorities that he killed his father Jerome Abel.

The complaint states Abel told police he was upset with his father, got a kitchen knife and drove it into his father's head.

According to the complaint, Jerome Abel suffered more than 2-dozen stab wounds to the neck and body and several stab wounds to the hands and arms.

After being arrested Sunday night, according to the complaint, authorities say Jacob Abel told them he killed and was going to be famous.

Authorities said Abel acted strangely during an interview after his arrest. At one point Abel became angry and threatened to kill one of the officers questioning him.

First-degree murder is punishable by up to life in prison. Second degree murder is punishable by up to 40 years in prison.
