ADM Closing Walhalla Ethanol PlantWALHALLA, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Archer Daniels Midland Company announced Monday that it will close its ethanol plant in Walhalla in April.
WALHALLA, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Archer Daniels Midland Company announced Monday that it will close its ethanol plant in Walhalla in April.
The closure will affect 61 employees. ADM says it will offer severance packages and that employees may have opportunities to apply for jobs at other facilities.
A statement from ADM says the Walhalla plant was not delivering sufficient returns because its geographic location and scale made it difficult to compete in the marketplace.
"It is a big hit to the community just because of the number of people that work there, and they've worked there a long time. Anytime you lose that number of jobs in a community our size it's going to be hard," Walhalla Mayor Christopher Jackson said after learning of ADM's decision to close the plant.
After the plant closes, ADM's U.S. ethanol production capacity will be about 1.72 billion gallons per year. The Walhalla plant had an annual capacity of 30 million gallons per year.
