MONTROSE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the 7-year-old boy struck and killed by a car while waiting for a school bus in Montrose.

Hayden Solien (soh-LEEN') of Montrose was waiting for the bus in front of his grandmother's house Friday morning when the car veered off Highway 21, struck the boy and then struck a tree and rolled.

The driver also died. The patrol identifies him as 47-year-old Robert Mercier of Arlington.

Mercier's wife, Suzann, tells the Star Tribune that her husband was driving home from Big Lake after working overnight for Metro Transit as a mechanic for the Northstar commuter rail line. She tells the newspaper he probably fell asleep.

Authorities don't know if Mercier had a medical condition. An autopsy will be conducted.
