BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's Board of Higher Education is meeting with Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem to discuss a possible lawsuit over the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname.

Board President Grant Shaft says the meeting will be held by telephone conference call at 3 p.m. Monday.

Nickname supporters have filed petitions demanding a June vote on whether UND should have to use the nickname and an American Indian warrior profile logo.

Shaft says the pro-nickname law may be unconstitutional. He wants to hear Stenehjem's views on the argument.

Shaft says the board needs to decide whether it would be better to file a lawsuit, or fight the proposed nickname referendum.

Shaft says North Dakotans need to hear about the harm the law would do to UND and its sports teams.
