MINTO, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Florence Dumontet of Ardoch, ND, has been missing for nearly five months, but family and friends haven't given up hope.
The Minto Community Center hosted a benefit for the missing 82-year-old.
Florence's family has a simple goal.
"Keeping Florence fresh. We want to find Florence," Dumontet's niece Lenaye Driscoll said.
That's proving not to be an easy task. Authorities have given up hope that she will been found alive.
There's been no trace of her since she cashed a traveler's check at a gas station in Montana on October 16. That's the same day she left home in her pickup truck for an annual trip to visit family in Washington with her dog, Peaches.
"Florence had a good sense of humor she would get a dig in you whenever she got the chance," Florence's friend Tom Lee said.
"I want to exhaust all areas," Driscoll said.
Family and friends say there are many areas left to exhaust. Authorities say no evidence points to foul play, but the family notes that florence was carrying a large amount of cash and traveler's checks.
"I don't think that there was an accident. If there was an accident, I think they would have found a vehicle. Her vehicle is too big to hide," Driscoll said.
Driscoll and others are taking matters into their own hands, serving a warm meal to people in the community as they gather to raise money to use as a reward for finding Florence and hire a detective.
"Why are people not found? Do they only give them a few days and be done with them? As long as there hasn't been a body found or anything, to us, it's not real," Driscoll said.
Another benefit in the greater Grand Forks area is in the works.
Donations to the "Finding Florence" fund can be made at any Frandsen bank.
