EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) - Floral shops around town had a hectic day delivering hundreds of Valentine's Day surprises.
And for some shopowners, the smile a small gift brings to peoples faces is quite rewarding.
Valentine's Day is a fun day for many people around town as they receive gifts from loved ones, but it can be a bit stressful for those arranging and making Valentine deliveries.
With each trip, each stop, each step, another person is surprised.
Lilies, daisies and roses fill the back of Jeff Duchscherer's delivery truck.
"Today we'll do as much business as we do for 6 or 8 weeks in the summer in one day," Co-Owner of East Grand Floral Jeff Duchscherer said.
Although getting all the deliveries out on time can be chaotic, there are rewards for Dechscherer's stress.
"I mean they're really happy. Valentine's Day might be the only day they get flowers so for some it brings tears to their eyes. It's pretty fun," Duchscherer said.
Jeff and Shelly Duchscherer own three flower shops including East Grand Floral where phones are ringing, flowers are sorted and walk-ins are more than welcome.
"Extra designers, extra people up front and then extra delivery people we have on staff," Shelly Duchscherer said.
"It's all about planning before this, it's getting everything ready, making sure we have everything getting it all organized," Floral Designer Katie Hruby said.
Valentine's Day is the single busiest day here at EG Floral going through more than 4,000 roses and over 1,000 other varieties.
And eventually, the bouquets slowly disappear and deliveries wind down.
"The most fun is when it's over. It's just a lot of planning so it's nice to bring the flowers to the ladies and they really enjoy it," Duchscherer said.
The owners say sometimes they make deliveries right up until 8 p.m. or as long as it takes, even though they close at 5:30 p.m.
