GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Locked-out workers used the International Crop Expo as an opportunity to protest.

About 20 protesters were out at 8 a.m. when the expo began to take advantage of the big draw for farmers in the area.

Locked-out workers say they want farmers to know they still want to work for American Crystal Sugar and for them.

Three farmers came out to talk with the protesters, who say it makes them feel supported.

"I wish they'd be willing to hear our side of it. A lot of them don't want to. A couple came out and talked to us, it'd be nice if we had a few more that would be willing to talk and hear our side of the issues," union worker Scott Ripplinger said.

Protesters will be outside the Alerus for day two of the expo on Thursday.
