HALLOCK, MN (WDAZ-TV) - A Tri-County School District bus driver is charged with second-degree criminal sexual assault and accused of writing a letter to a 15-year-old girl asking her to have sexual contact.
David J. Gustafson, 66, is currently being held in the Kittson County Jail in Hallock.
According to the criminal complaint filed Tuesday, the girl's mother called the Kittson County Sheriff's Department after she found the note Gustafson had wrote.
The letter went into detail, with Gustafson expressing his love as well as the need to conceal their feelings for each other.
The letter was signed "Yours truly bus driver #9 Dave," according to the complaint.
The Sheriff's Department found text messages that were sent to the girl, traced the number that sent them and found that Gustafson was the owner of the cell phone.
A deputy interviewed Gustafson at his home in rural Greenbush, MN, and learned that Gustafson was driving bus when he met the girl.
Authorities say Gustafson had contact with the girl on two occasions.
As a result of Gustafon's statement and investigation completed by the Sheriff's Department, he was arrested on Friday and taken to the Kittson County Jail.
Second-degree criminal sexual assault carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine.
