DEVILS LAKE, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The President of Lake Region State College has returned from Ohio, where he is a finalist for the presidency of another college.

Dr. Mike Bower has put his career first for more than 20 years. But now he says his family has become his top priority.

His family lives near Indianapolis. He says he and his wife live too far away to enjoy spending time with them.

"My grandson's six and my granddaughter is 15. So, we don't want to miss those ages and the things that they're involved with, so we're looking forward to it," Bower said.

He's a finalist for the job at Owens Community College near Toledo, which would put him only four hours from family. Even then, Bower says he will miss the Lake Region.

"You got a great group of people, and the community is so supportive, and the foundation at the college is just wonderful as far as supporting students," Bower said.

He's not leaving immediately. He told Owens that he would like to stay here through June.

"I want to go through the graduation process here with the college because I know a lot of these kids here, and it would be very important for me to complete that," Bower said.

He also hopes to help find his replacement.

"And hopefully we can make some things happen between now and the time I leave that we'll have somebody hopefully in consideration or in that process to speed it up," Bower said.

When he does leave to re-join his family, he says he'll leave another behind.

"It's almost like a second family, and they treat you as well, so that will be something I won't forget," Bower said.

Bower says he should find out if he got the Owen Community College job sometime next week.
