FARGO – Police say a large brawl broke out during a private birthday party Sunday at a Fargo motel, sending four men to jail and one to the hospital and causing more than $2,000 in damage.

Officers were called to the disturbance at 1:32 a.m. at the Vista Inn & Suites, 1340 21st Ave. S., where the partygoers had rented a space, Lt. Joel Vettel said.

When officers arrived, they found a number of people fighting, including two men brawling in the lobby, Vettel said.

One man was taken by ambulance to the hospital with a significant cut to his head from being struck with a chair, Vettel said.

Nelson Adam, 22, of West Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

Francis Kaikai, 27, of Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of simple assault and disorderly conduct. Also arrested for disorderly conduct were Edney Ajuo, 26, of Moorhead, and Abraham Zozimo, 20, of Fargo.

The fight resulted in more than $2,000 in damage to the hotel, including broken chairs and broken glass in the lobby and banquet room, Vettel said.

Police received a report afterward that a shirtless man may have had a gun during the fight, but no gun was found at scene, Vettel said.

It’s unclear what started the fight, he said, adding more arrests are possible.
