(WDAZ-TV) - North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple on Thursday said he and his office are encouraging United Airlines executives to start service from the Grand Forks International Airport.

Dalrymple said people served by the airport need more air service, particularly to the southwest United States.

"For three years running, the Grand Forks airport has set records for passenger boardings and meeting this growing demand for air service is essential to the region's continued economic growth and quality of life," Dalrymple said in a media release.

Among the state's four largest airport, the Grand Forks International Airport that does not have a daily, direct flight to Denver.

“I shared with executives at United that the Grand Forks airport offers them an ideal opportunity because of its proximity for Canadian travelers and because of the Grand Forks area’s robust economy and strong business climate,” Dalrymple said.
