(WDAZ-TV) - North Dakota human service officials have given the Spirit Lake tribe until the end of march to fix issues with the care of 36 foster children.

Federal officials are on the Spirit Lake Reservation this week to review foster care. A state review revealed several problems, including incomplete or non-existent case plans for children, and inadequate health and education records.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs will present its preliminary findings to tribal leadership on Friday.

Tribal Chairman Roger Yankton told WDAZ on Thursday that he will not comment on the issue until a firm plan is in place to fix the system.
