GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Jesse Hettich hit the game-winning shot, then blocked a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer as Beulah beat North Star 51-49 to claim its first state basketball title Saturday at the North Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.
Hettich's short jumper with 10 seconds left snapped a 49-49 tie, and he blocked Jeff Hagler's runner in the lane from behind to snap the Bearcats' 53-game winning streak.
Trevor Zacher led Beulah with 18 points and nine rebounds. Hettich and Casey Duppong each added 10 for the Miners (25-3), who knocked off their third straight undefeated team to earn the title.
Hagler led the Bearcats (26-1) with 22 points and five assists. Daniel Grande added 15 points.
