Blood Donors Needed, Especially During Winter

At this time of year people are usually busy with the holidays and traveling, and they often don't think about donating blood. Because of that there is sometimes a greater need for blood during the winter.

People in Devils Lake had the chance to give blood today. About 50 people were signed up today, and more stopped in without an appointment. Donor services representatives say they are hoping to have 80 people come in to donate blood during the blood drive, which continues tomorrow. They say they see fewer people attending blood drives at this time of year.

Mathew Wiese/Donor Services: "We're looking for type Os to come in and donate. It seems like that is the needed type of blood because the O negatives are the universal donors for red cells."

Melvin Nosbusch/Donated Blood: "Blood is needed and my type of blood, which is O positive, is very important."

If you weren't able to go today, the blood drive goes from 8 to 2 tomorrow at the Devils Lake Armory.
